Rebecca Thompson is an Associate Attorney at LJT Law Group.
Ms. Thompson received her BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley and her law degree from UC Hastings College of the Law. While at UC Hastings, Ms. Thompson's passion for child advocacy led her to become a Public Interest Scholar and Co-President of the Association of Students for Kids.
Ms. Thompson has extensive litigation and family law experience. She started her legal career in family law in 1995. After multiple years practicing family law, she practiced as a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice and as an Assistant Regional Counsel at the United States Social Security Administration. Her experience in public service enhanced both her litigation and negotiation skills. While working as an attorney in public service, she appeared in state and federal court, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 2009, Ms. Thompson returned to her original passion: family law. Although she loved her work in public service, she missed her family law practice and the ability to represent individuals, rather than government agencies. She prides herself on finding the right balance between litigating in court and negotiating a settlement. She cherishes the relationships she builds with clients and approaches her cases with the compassion and patience crucial in family law matters. Ms. Thompson is known for her interpersonal skills and connecting with clients of varying personalities and professional backgrounds.
Ms. Thompson has conducted multiple family law trials, ranging from custody/move-away cases to post-judgment spousal support. She has experience in all aspects of family law, including highly contested custody matters and complex financial issues. Her practice has included the use of a range of experts, including forensic accountants, vocational experts, custody evaluators, and estate planners. She has obtained successful outcomes for clients in matters involving the apportionment of restricted stock and stock options, business valuations, and the tracing of separate property interests.
In her free time, Ms. Thompson loves to travel, read, and seek out exciting new experiences with her family.
